Understanding Removal Statuses: What Each Stage Actually Means

How to read potential findings, prepared requests, submissions, organisation replies and independently checked outcomes without mistaking progress for proof.

A removal dashboard is useful only when its labels reflect evidence. A progress bar, a model assessment, or time passing cannot prove a company removed data.

The stages to look for

  1. Potential finding. A source or index signal needs further review; it is not confirmation that a current organisation holds the data.
  2. Confirmed finding. The required evidence policy has been met for that case. Confirmation should retain a source reference rather than rely on a score or summary alone.
  3. Removal prepared. A case has draft material and a verified route. Preparation is not sending.
  4. Submitted. A request was recorded as submitted. Submission is not delivery, acceptance, or deletion.
  5. Organisation reply or claim. A reply may be useful evidence, but an organisation's claim alone is not independently checked removal.
  6. Independently verified removal. A separate observer and supporting evidence checked the outcome. Only this state supports a removal claim.
  7. Reappeared. Fresh evidence later shows a record again. It is a new evidence event, not proof that every earlier step failed.

What you can do

Review the source and date, keep your own records, and use the organisation's published privacy or account route where appropriate. Never share an OTP, bank credential, password or identity document in response to an unexpected removal-related message.

The bottom line: ask what was actually recorded, what evidence supports it, and what remains unverified. Check your exposure to review source-attributed findings and their next available action.
